      Patagonia 

The  Argentine Patagonia, or  Patagonian region of Argentina, is one of the four  integrated regions  of the  Argentine Republic . It is formed by the  provinces  from  Neuquén, Río Negro, Chubut, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego, as well as Antarctica and the South Atlantic Islands (Isla de los Estados, the Año Nuevo Islands, the Malvinas Islands, Beauchêne Island, the Cormorant and Negra rocks, the South Georgia, the South Sandwich Islands, other islands, islets and rocks situated in internal waters and in the territorial sea). It is bordered to the north by  Mendoza and La Pampa, to the east with the province of  Buenos Aires  and the  Atlantic Ocean , and to the west with  Chili .  Two of the most touristic points are Ushuaia (which will be developed separately) and Bariloche, being that  both cities are separated by about 2,000 kilometers which shows the distances in  the same.

How to get to Argentine Patagonia

Due to its great extension, one of the most used means of transport in the Patagonian region is the plane. To serve this type of transport, in Patagonia there are good airports in the main destinations, as well as important airlines that connect the most important towns with the capital of the country. Let's take a look at some of the busiest airports in the region.

Bariloche: the Teniente Luis Candelaria International Airport. It serves as access to the Patagonian lake area, providing access to Bariloche, Villa la Angostura, El Bolsón, etc. It connects with the Capital and with the most important cities of Argentina, including a connection with El Calafate. There are also flights to and from Santiago de Chile and Sao Paulo (Brazil).

Ushuaia: Malvinas Argentinas International Airport serves the island of Tierra del Fuego, in the extreme south of the country, and its beautiful architecture has been recognized  by specialized magazines. It connects with Punta Arenas (Chile).

El Calafate: Comandante Armando Tola International Airport  It is the main means of access to Los Glaciares National Park. It has connections with the main cities of Argentina and  Bariloche, Río Gallegos, Ushuaia, Trelew and Comodoro Rivadavia. It also connects with the Chilean cities of Santiago, Puerto Natales and Punta Arenas.

Comodoro Rivadavia: General Enrique Mosconi International Airport is the fourth busiest in Patagonia. It connects with the most important towns in the region and with Buenos Aires, but it has no connections abroad.

What to see in Argentine Patagonia

Copahue/Caviahue

In the middle of the Neuquén mountain range, distant 20 km. one from the other, constitute a single tourist destination that unites hot springs, snow and volcanoes in a beautiful and strange mountain landscape. around the  Lake Caviahue  is the landscape crowned by the Copahue volcano, an area of beautiful views, and hot springs surrounded by steppes and forests of pehuenes or araucarias. It is a very particular landscape, especially because of the physiognomy of these trees, a species that has survived for thousands of years.

Located  on the shores of Lake Lácar, at an altitude of 640 meters, to the southwest of the province of Neuquén and only 40 km. from the border with Chile, is the point of arrival and departure of the  Road of the Seven Lakes , which joins that city with  San Carlos de Bariloche  through 184 km of spectacular landscapes of lakes, mountains and beautiful vegetation. One of the most important attractions is Cerro Chapelco, which is very close to the city.

Lanin National Park

East  National Park  of the province of Neuquén located to the southwest of the Province of Neuquén, it covers an area of 379,000 hectares, which protects an important sector of the Patagonian Andean forest, where the pellín oak, the pehuén and the raulí abound. With its two lakes, the Lácar and the Huechulafquen, it offers areas of black sand beaches due to the volcanic activity of the Lanín volcano, a peak of 3776 m. high with eternal snow on its summit. All in a beautiful landscape of mountains and 24 lakes of glacial origin.

Villa La Angostura

76 km. from Bariloche. La Angostura is an area of lakes, rivers and mountains surrounded by forests, ideal for vacations, recreation and sports such as skiing, snowboarding. This small mountain village on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi, has excellent lodging and gastronomy services to receive visitors all year round.

Located in the province of Neuquén, it covers 1,753 hectares, of which 20 are covered by magnificent  Arrayanes, which is a type of tree that only grows in temperate forest areas, reaching  an unusual density in this area. With its particular color, its bark brown in young trees, and orange, in its adult version, the shades of the myrtle forest are typical of one of the purest and most extensive forests of this species.  The average age is 160 to 250 years, with some older and more resistant ones being 500 to 600 years old.

The Route of the Seven Lakes

In the province of Neuquén, uniting  San Martin de los Andes and Villa La Angostura, runs  one of the most beautiful routes in the world. It is a 110-kilometer journey through winding trails, dissimilar landscapes of wonderful colors and crystal-clear water mirrors. It crosses the Lanín and Nahuel Huapi national parks, and through the Lácar, Machónico, Falkner, Villarino, Escondido, Espejo and Correntoso lakes and  the Nahuel Huapi.

Saint  Charles of Bariloche

Bariloche is the most important city in the Lake District, on the edge of one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the world: Nahuel Huapi. Of a  intense blue full of islands and so extensive that on one side its coast meets an arid landscape, and on the other spectacular humid forests. The Civic Center is recommended to try the typical foods of the southern region such as trout or lamb, chocolates and beer. A very good  walk is to go up to the Cerro Campanario chairlift,  at a height of more or less 1,000 meters and 30 minutes on foot from the city center, to observe the Victoria and Huemul islands,   Lakes Moreno and Nahuel Huapi and  the El Trebol lagoon.

Cathedral Hill

It is the largest ski center in the southern hemisphere (120 kilometers of slopes distributed over an area of 600 hectares) and offers a wide infrastructure of services for the practice of winter sports. It is open all year round and has 34 means of elevation (among chairlifts, cabins and tow means), facilitating the ascent of 36,000 people per hour. Once at the top you can enjoy the beautiful inns installed on its imposing slopes, with incredible views of the Nahuel Huapi and Gutiérrez lakes, the Andes mountain range, the Tronador hill, and the other surrounding hills.

Otto Hill 

is to  only 5 kilometers from the center of Bariloche. To go up, the already legendary cable car is used, covering a distance of 2100 meters in this attractive means of elevation with capacity for 4 passengers in each gondola. At the top is a  rotating confectionery, one of the best known features of this hill that rotates 360 degrees in about 20 or 40 minutes (depending on speed)  it is glazed in its entire circumference and allows you to enjoy  beautiful views. From there, three trails depart that trekking lovers will greatly enjoy: Mirador Gutierrez, Nido del Águila, Piedra Hasburg.

Thundering Hill

It is located in the southern part of the Andes Mountains, on the border between Chile and Argentina. It is the highest hill in the surroundings of Bariloche and the only one that remains white throughout the year due to the glaciers on its summit. It is a geologically active volcano being  its last unknown eruption.

It separates two national parks: Vicente Pérez Rosales in the province of Llanquihue, Chile, and Nahuel Huapi, in Río Negro and Neuquén, Argentina. El Tronador has a total of 7 glaciers

Lake Mascardi

Located within the Nahuel Huapi National Park –near the city of Bariloche–, it is a mirror of water 23 kilometers long by four wide, with a maximum depth of 218 meters. It is in these waters that they form a “V” that we found an island that looks like a heart: Piuké Huapí. In the same section of the excursion, you visit the  black drifter  on the summit of Cerro Tronador. It is a glacier that incorporates dark-colored sediments from ancient volcanic eruptions within the ice.

Puelo Lake

It is a locality  located in the  Andean Patagonia , in the  Cushamen department , northwest of the  province of Chubut , distant only 4 km north of the  water mirror  which gives it its name. It can be reached in a short time from El Bolsón, since the distance does not exceed 17 km. It is a mountainous landscape of glacial origin, with many idyllic colored rivers, several lakes, forests and some beaches. But above all, a unique site thanks to the low altitude of the lake level, which allows the development of Chilean flora together with species from the Argentine Andean Patagonian forest. Known as "the Pearl of the Region" this Andean town is the place where the best hops for the craft beer industry are found.

Los Alerces National Park

It is a protected area of 263,000 hectares located in the Andean region of the Province of Chubut, on the international border with the Republic of Chile. For some it is one of the most beautiful forest and mountain landscapes in Argentine Patagonia. The National Park shelters several lakes such as Futalaufquen and Lake Verde, as well as landscapes of great  beauty between rivers, mountains and forests. Above all, its larch forest stands out, with specimens thousands of years old.

In the canyon of the Pinturas river is the cave art of the Cueva de las Manos, where inhabitants of 9,000 years ago showed  his art and  testimony of life It is a site of cave paintings in the province of Santa Cruz, where some of the paintings and inscriptions are dated at almost 10,000 years old, being one of the oldest artistic expressions of the South American peoples.  that you have knowledge. El Chalten

I know  located in the southern Andes, in the province of Santa Cruz, within the  Los Glaciares National Park , in a valley where the De las Vueltas and Fitz Roy rivers converge. Mount Chalten or Fitz Roy, 3,405 meters high,  It is the predominant figure of the landscape.  It is one of the newest towns and one of the fastest growing for being a  trekking paradise. A place to know is La Laguna de Los Tres, one of the most beautiful in the world, not only because of the color of the water, but also because of its particular high mountain environment.

Perito Moreno Glacier

It is located 80 km. from  El Calafate, a city on the banks of the  Lake Argentino , in the  Santa Cruz province . It is one of the 7 natural wonders of Argentina and  next to the Iguazú Falls, which are well in the north of the country, one of the two emblematic natural wonders. Although it is not the only glacier nor the largest in the region, it is the most accessible, being able to  walk alongside him through a system of catwalks. It shows a surprising and curious phenomenon, in which its great mass of ice advances continuously, causing the accumulation, rupture and detachment of gigantic blocks of ice on its 5 km wide front. The front of the glacier exceeds 60 m above the water at its maximum height, from which pieces of various sizes continuously fall, producing a similar stridency  to the  sound of thunder

Valdes Peninsula

Located in  the eastern side of Patagonia, on the  The Argentine Sea in the province of Chubut is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the country. It is recognized for its population of southern right whales, dolphins, dolphins, penguins, elephant seals, and rheas. An amazing ecosystem in an arid and denuded landscape. where they coexist  As mentioned wild penguins, sea lions, the llama-like guanaco, elephant seals and, if you arrive at the right time of year, whales as the season runs from June to mid-December.
