Tips for your travels

Vaccines

Before traveling, it is advisable to check on the websites of the embassies and consulates of the countries you will visit (including those in which you will make stopovers) whether they may require the International Vaccination Certificate to enter. Some airlines and cruise companies also require it to board. Keep in mind that according to International Health Regulations, the vaccine must be applied 10 days before entering the country, so it is good that you make these inquiries in advance. Regarding COVID19, you should check the status of each country to observe both entry and cohabitation restrictions.

Travel Insurance

International health insurance is essential. Accidents and medical emergencies have a significant financial cost that puts you and your family in a vulnerable situation.

In Europe it is one of the requirements to enter the Schengen Area (see below).

The minimum coverage to enter the aforementioned space is Euros 30,000.

In Argentina the best known companies are Univesal Assistance and Assist Card . The Visa card offers Gold members free coverage of US$20,000 and Platinum members US$30,000. The MasterAssist Premium program from Master Card offers something similar.

Stopover Flights

A stopover flight allows you to make a stopover long enough to visit a place before reaching your final destination. It is a single ticket, so it is cheaper than buying two separate tickets. Many airlines offer sightseeing and accommodation during your stopover, sometimes at low cost or even free.

Sockets at destination

Not all countries share the same voltage type, nor of course, the same type of plug model . It is best to have a universal adapter, which is very versatile and allows you to change the configuration depending on the country you are in.

Schengen Area

The Schengen Area is an area comprising 26 European states that have officially abolished all passports and all other types of border control at their mutual borders. The area functions primarily as a single jurisdiction for international travel purposes, with a common visa policy. The 26 states are: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. Therefore, entry into one of these countries qualifies you for entry into the others without having to go through the immigration process again . If you leave the Schengen Area countries and want to re-enter, all your documents, mainly your passport, will be checked again .

Where to exchange currency

Although it is common to use credit cards, sometimes it is convenient to travel with foreign currency and pay for your purchases in cash; in this case:

The easiest option would be to go to your bank and make the exchange. For a traveler who lives in Argentina and travels abroad, it is not very favorable due to the differences in exchange rates that exist between different exchange rates. For someone who travels to Argentina, the situation is very different.

Another option is to change it at the airport. This is not recommended, as the exchange rate they will offer you will be bad and you will lose money.

One of the best options is to withdraw money from ATMs ( depending on the availability of each country of origin) or exchange money at exchange offices in the destination country, always checking whether the exchange rate is good and what commissions they charge. Here is a list of ATM commissions around the world prepared by the Low Cost Guide .
