It is one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates , whose capital is the city of the same name. It is located on the coast of the Persian Gulf, in the Arabian Desert, and borders the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to the south, Sharjah to the northeast, the Sultanate of Oman to the southeast, and the Emirates of Ajman to the west and Ras al-Khaimah to the north. With an area of 3,885 square kilometers, it is the second largest emirate in the Federation. The Government of Dubai has been governed by a constitutional monarchy since 2006, headed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is also the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates. The discovery of oil in Dubai in the 1960s marked a significant change in Dubai's economy and administration. In the following decade, the United Arab Emirates was formed, ending its dependence on the United Kingdom. It is strongly influenced by Islam, and Arab and Bedouin society.

How to get to Dubai

The most common and convenient way to reach Dubai is by plane. Dubai International Airport (DXB) is the main airport in the United Arab Emirates and offers flights to destinations all over the world.

By plane: It has an international airport (DXB) that receives flights from around the world. Emirates Airlines, one of the most recognized airlines, has frequent flights to Dubai.

Other means of transport:

Cruises: If you're cruising through the Middle East, you might arrive in Dubai.

Bus: Although less common, there are international bus routes to Dubai.

Once you arrive at Dubai International Airport (DXB), you can take a taxi, bus, metro, or rental car to reach your final destination.

What to see in Dubai

Burj Khalifa

The 828-meter-high tower dominates the skyscraper-filled skyline and represents the heart and soul of Dubai. At its feet is the Dubai Fountain, with its choreographed jets and lights set to music. This engineering marvel represents the heart and soul of the city. It offers excellent views from two different viewing platforms: At the Top , which spans two floors located between the 124th and 125th floors of the building, and one of the world's highest observation decks (555 meters) on the 148th floor.

Dubai Burj Khalifa

Burj Al Arab

At 321 meters tall, it is one of the world's most iconic hotel buildings. It is located at sea, on an artificial island 270 meters from the beach in the Persian Gulf, connected to the mainland by a bridge. It was built to resemble the sail of a yacht and is located in a specific area so that its shadow does not cover the beach. Two "wings" extend in a V shape to form a large "mast," while the space between them is enclosed in a huge atrium.

Within its walls lies a ski slope, a cinema, 630 shops, and casual dining options, making it a must-see on any trip to Dubai. The fabulous Fashion Dome, with its wrought-iron roof reminiscent of European railways, houses brands such as Apple, Chanel, Burberry, and Missoni, as well as other luxury boutiques such as Polo Ralph Lauren, among many others.

The Walk, at Jumeirah Beach Residence

A very popular promenade for shopping, dining, and strolling along the seafront. This lively coastal boulevard offers a wide variety of shops and boutiques selling fashion, homeware, and crafts. Among them are the I Love Dubai gift shop, the luxury coat boutique Manzari, and a selection of other international brands, as well as temporary stalls selling jewelry, food, and household goods.

Al Fahidi Historic District
Located on the banks of the Dubai Creek, this World Heritage district has retained much of its original infrastructure, offering a glimpse into life in Old Dubai during the 19th century. Wind towers constructed of stone, teak, gypsum, palm wood, and sandalwood, as well as alleyways and pathways, tell the story of life before the seven emirates.

The incredible building in which it is located offers avant-garde architectural design, accompanied by sumptuous interiors worthy of a palace, immediately occupying the 9th place on the list of the 50 best hotels in the world in 2024 upon its opening. Dubai Islands

Formerly known as Deira Islands, this is a budding coastal destination for family fun, forming an artificial archipelago off the coast of Deira. The five islands will cover a total of 17 square kilometers, featuring high-end residences, 80 hotels, leisure projects, and marinas. These islands add more than 20 kilometers to the city's coastline, including a beach and 2 square kilometers of parks and outdoor areas, as well as world-class golf courses overlooking the Arabian Gulf.

Entertainment and activities

IMG Worlds of Adventure , Dubai's largest air-conditioned amusement park, features the Velociraptor roller coaster, Dubai's tallest and fastest, where you'll zoom from the prehistoric jungle to the desert at 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds.

Motiongate Dubai , a Hollywood-inspired adventure land, features some 30 attractions based on memorable action and animation films, including Ghostbusters, Shrek, and The Hunger Games. There are three zones dedicated to legendary film studios such as Dreamworks, Lionsgate, and Columbia Pictures, as well as Smurf Village, where children will have hours of fun.

LEGOLAND Dubai , a world where LEGO bricks come to life. Ideal for families with children, it includes more than 40 attractions and 15,000 LEGO models, with a multitude of rides where children can practice and play with nearly 60 million LEGO bricks.

Naif Museum , a former police headquarters and prison created in 1939;

Dubai Museum , located in a fort built around 1787 that served as the seat of the monarchy, a weapons arsenal, and a prison. Since 1971, it has served as a museum, chronicling the city's history and culture and explaining what the pearl trade was like before the arrival of oil.

Dubai Sightseeing Bus

The new Dubai On and Off hop-on hop-off bus lets you explore the city's main attractions; it departs every 60 minutes from the Dubai Mall. The entire tour lasts two hours if you choose not to hop off at any of the stops, and you'll be able to see all of the emirate's landmarks, including the world-famous Burj Al Arab, the Jumeirah Mosque, and the Gold and Spice Souks.

Gastronomy

While the city is famous for its incredible culinary offerings, local Emirati cuisine sets it apart and offers a deeper insight into the emirate's culture and traditions. Some of the delicious dishes on offer include:

Hummus: chickpea cream with olive oil, salt and sesame.

Makbus: mutton and rice combined with various types of spices.

 

Camel: Served in many ways, often with rice or in burger form.
